Four conmen arrested in Sohar

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested three Omanis and an expat for impersonating police officers, kidnapping, assaulting, and robbing a person of OMR1,000.
The Department of Criminal Investigation, led by the North Al Batinah police, stated, “Three citizens and an Asian national were arrested in Sohar on charges of loot, impersonation of police officers, and harassment.”
According to the ROP: “The accused pretended to be policemen and entered the house of the victim. They asked to search his house, then beat him, and stole his money, mobile phones, and two watches. The accused then took the victim in their car to a farm and asked him for OMR1,000 in exchange for his resident card and release.”
After investigation, the four suspects were identified and arrested. They later confessed to committing the crimes.
Last month, an Omani national was arrested and charged with theft and impersonating a police officer. The man, according to ROP, stopped an Asian national in Ruwi claiming to be a policeman and asked the victim for his documents.
“The man lured his victim to a nearby building, searched him, and took his money,” ROP stated. Following the crime, the victim reported the matter to the Ruwi police station and the accused, who was drunk, was arrested.
