How Oman plans on conserving its wetlands ecosystem

Muscat: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, in collaboration with Haya Water, celebrated the International Wetlands Day at the Al Ansab Wetlands.

Organised under the theme 'Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future', the event was held to raise awareness about the restoration, rehabilitation, and conservation of wetlands in urban areas as well as encourage the site's inclusion in the Ramsar Convention, an intergovernmental treaty that supports the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands and their resources.

The event was attended by specialists from Haya Water, who provided schoolchildren with a thorough overview of the area and the many birds that populate them.

Located in Wilayat Bausher, the Al Ansab Wetlands are a safe haven to over 290 migratory bird species as well as a variety of plants and other wildlife. Stretching over 18 square kilometres, the wetlands have become a popular destination for eco-tourists as well as researchers, students and wildlife photographers in Oman.
