Football: Malkiya rout Suwaiq in AFC Cup

Muscat: In a disappointing start to their campaign in the AFC Cup, Oman’s Suwaiq were handed a defeat by Bahraini club Malkiya in Bahrain on Monday.
According to news posted on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) website, in a Group A match played at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, Malkiya routed Suwaiq in a 4-1 victory.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when Gege Soriola’s shot found its way to Sayed Hashem who side-footed into the back of the net for his team’s first ever AFC Cup goal.
Syrian midfielder Israa Hamwiah advanced into Al Suwaiq’s half down the right flank and squared for Hashim Isa to double the Bahraini side’s lead at the half-hour mark.
Abdulaziz Al Muqbali pulled one back for the Omani outfit in the final minute of the first half, before Hamwia and Isa combined again for Malkiya’s third of the evening, with the Syrian delivering the cross for Isa to finish from inside the box in the 71st minute.
Malkiya capped their perfect night when substitute Sayed Ali Isa met Sayed Issa’s cross from a tight angle first-time past Omani goalkeeper Fayeez Al Rushaidi to make it 4-1 nine minutes from time.
