Deputy Prime Minister discusses cooperation in health sector with WHO DG

Muscat: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received on Saturday, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) who is heading the WHO’s delegation taking part in the inaugural of the national policy and National Multisectoral Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases.
Having welcomed the guest and his accompanying delegation, Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate’s appreciation for the distinct role the WHO plays in enhancement of communication and provision of the best health services, worldwide.
Sayyid Fahd reaffirmed that the Sultanate, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, is keen on providing healthcare services for the wellbeing of citizens.
Sayyid Fahd also pointed to the efforts made by the Ministry of Health in implementing the national policy for control of various types of diseases.
The meeting dealt with means of consultation and cooperation between the Sultanate and World Health Organisation in the fields of health and treatment, ways of control of all types of diseases and exchange of expertise. The WHO Director General expressed the organisation’s appreciation for the efforts the Sultanate has extended in development of health services and health care and services accorded to citizens within the comprehensive development witnessed in the Sultanate.
He also expressed WHO’s readiness for putting its expertise and available capabilities under the disposal of the Sultanate, mainly in relation to the efforts extended for dissemination of awareness on health aspects and in execution of the national plan for control
of diseases.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid Al Saidi, Minister of Health, Dr. Ali bin Talib Al Hinai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning Affairs.
It was also attended by Dr. Akjemal Magtymova, the WHO representative to the Sultanate ; Svetlana Axelrod, Assistant Director General for Non-communicable Diseases and Mental Health at WHO and Michele Boccoz, Assistant Director General for External Relations at WHO.
