Muscat: Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed bin Hamad Al Burtmani, Assistant Director of Traffic Operations in Oman, revealed the way traffic signals work in the streets of the Sultanate.

In a special interview with our Arabic radio station, he said that the traffic signals have a set of inputs, including traffic control and traffic density, which are well studied in cooperation with the competent authorities such as the Muscat Municipality.

“The timing of the traffic signals is different in the morning and evening, and depends on the traffic density on the respective street. The operating times of the signals are changed based on the traffic density which is a result of careful monitoring. Some signals are also equipped with devices that can monitor traffic,” Al-Burtmani said.

"Traffic signals include many different types such as: directional arrows, red, yellow and green lights, and signals which may be horizontal or vertical. These signs vary in colour and shape, and are used to direct drivers, determine the correct path, and warn them of potential dangers on the road,” he added.
