Oman Junior & Cadet Open off to exciting start

Muscat: With young paddlers from across the globe displaying their mettle, the Oman Junior and Cadet Open got off to an exciting start at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Wednesday.
The world-level junior table tennis championships, the first ITTF Premium Junior Circuit event to be organised in the Sultanate, was officially inaugurated by His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Assistant Secretary-General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers on Wednesday evening in the presence of Oman Table Tennis Committee chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Ba Mukhalif and the officials of the Ministry of Sports Affairs.
The action, however, began in the morning with Syria dominating in the cadet boys category.
Syria B started with a 3-1 victory over Sweden B before Syria A team blanked a team comprising Omani and Egyptian players 3-0.
In the other matches of cadey boys, Jordan defeated Oman D 3-0, India scored a 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia, Egypt were too good for Oman C in a 3-0 win and Iran downed Oman A by the same margin.
In the junior boys, China handed Iran B a 3-0 defeat.
The championship, which runs till
February 11, has attracted as many as 114 entries from 19 nations, including China, India, Egypt, Czech Republic, Greece, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Sweden, Lebanon, Scotland, Syria, Thailand, Yemen and the Philippines.
