Oman junior paddlers ready for global table tennis meet

Muscat: After undergoing rigorous training camps, Oman’s young paddlers are ready to take on the world’s best in the Oman Junior and Cadet Open.
The competition, an ITTF Premium Junior Circuit event, is scheduled to be organised at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from February 7 to 11.
The Oman Table Tennis Committee has selected 13 young talents after a comprehensive training progammes, which included 30 training sessions.
Hosts Oman will be fielding teams in three categories of the championship. In the mini cadets category, Oman will be represented by Muayad Al Matawa’a, Mohammed Matawa’a, Ahmed Al Riyami, Omar Al Ghassani and Ayman Al Shahi.
Oman’s cadets team comprises Al Munther Al Ghassani, Muaz Al Shahi, Essa Al Riyami, Abdulrahman Al Za’abi and Hussain Al Lawati.
In the juniors category, Oman will field Mishal Al Shahi, Mohammed Al Balushi and Abdullah Al Balushi.
The tournament has attracted as many as 114 entries from 19 nations, including China, India, Egypt, Czech Republic, Greece, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Sweden, Lebanon, Scotland, Syria, Thailand, Yemen and the Philippines.
