Tennis: Oman Fed Cup team head to Bahrain

Muscat: Star player Fatma Al Nabhani will spearhead Oman’s challenge in the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group II competition in Bahrain later this week.
The four-member Omani team, accompanied by coach Hadia Mohammed and delegation head Salman Al Balushi, the Executive Director of Oman Tennis Association (OTA), left for Manama on Sunday.
The Fed Cup Group II competition is scheduled to take place in Isa Town from February 6 to 10 with the participation of 14 teams. The two teams from the competition will be promoted to Group I in 2019.
Besides Fatma Al Nabhani, the other members of Oman team are Sarah Al Balushi, Maryam Al Balushi and Aisha Al Suleimani.
The other teams taking part in the Group II competition are hosts Bahrain, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pacific Oceania, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Malaysia and New Zealand.
The teams will be divided into four groups with Pool A and B comprising three teams each and Pool C and D consisting of four teams.
At the end of round robin ties, the winners of Pool A will clash with winners of Pool C and Pool B toppers take on Pool D winners. The winners of those playoffs will be promoted to Group I in 2019.
