Al Muqbali strikes as Suwaiq qualify for AFC Cup

Muscat: A splendid strike by Abdulaziz Al Muqbali helped Suwaiq hold Palestine’s Hilal Alquds to a 1-1 draw in the second match of their double leg playoff in the AFC Cup at Seeb Sports Stadium on Monday.
The result meant Suwaiq booked their place in the AFC Cup on a 2-1 aggregate. Suwaiq had won the first leg match by a 1-0 margin in Palestine on January 22.
At the Seeb Sports Stadium on Monday, Suwaiq were stunned when Hilal Alquds took the lead in the 19th minute through Mohammed Yamin.
However, experienced Abdulaziz Al Muqbali scored the equaliser in the 69th minute, ensuring Suwaiq’s entry into the main draw of the AFC Cup.
Suwaiq will be second Omani club to make it to the 2018 AFC Cup after Salalah giants Dhofar Club.
Al Suwaiq will be placed in Group A along with two-time defending champions Air Force Club of Iraq, Bahrain’s Malkiya Club and Al Jazeera of Jordan.
