Astronauts spacewalked outside the International Space Station on Tuesday, January 23, marking the first spacewalk of 2018.
Expedition 54 Flight Engineers completed the first spacewalk of the year around 2:13 p.m. EST after making adjustments to International Space Station's big robotic arm. Astronauts Scott Tingle and Mark Vande Hei floated out of the station to replace what is known as a grappling device on the end of Canadarm2, NASA said.
This is Vande Hei's first spacewalk and the first time astronauts have ventured outside the station in 2018.
