129 in fray for OCCI January 28 elections; polling centres well equipped

Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) Election Committee for the term 2018-2022 has completed equipping all voting centres for OCCI election in the various governorates.
The centres have been provided with the necessary technologies to ensure smooth running of the election process that will be held on Sunday January 28.
Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and head of the OCCI Election Committee said that the voting for OCCI election will take place at the various governorates on Sunday 28th January electronically.
Two centres have been allocated in Muscat at OCCI main building and Al Tafawuq Basic Education School in the Wilayat of A’Seeb (Al Mawalih South).
Three centers have been allocated in Dhofar Governorate, namely Al Koounz Basic Education School in the Wilayat of Salalah, the Directorate of Commerce and Industry in the Wilayat of Thumrait, Abu Firas Al Hamdani Basic Education School in the Wilayat of Shaleem & Halaniyat.
Two centers were allocated in Musandam Governorate, namely OCCI branch in Khasba and the Commerce and Industry Directorate in the Wilayat of Diba.
The election will take place also at OCCI branches in A’Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, North A’Sharqiyah, South A’Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and A’Dhahirah.
The Committee formed a number of sub committees at all election centres. These committees are chaired by members of Public Prosecution to ensure transparency of the election process.
The formed committees will supervise the voting and sorting out of votes. They will also ensure the identity of voters and ban the entry of non-voters to the election centers without prior approval.
They will also raise reports of the sorting out of votes to the Committee upon completing the sorting out of votes. They will also prepare a report about the progress of the election process at the Centre.
It should be noted that OCCI Election Appeals Committee has received a number of appeals on the initial lists for candidates for OCCI chairmanship and their branches boards and were settled by the Appeals Committee.
The OCCI Election Committee has approved the final list of candidates which includes 129 persons.
The OCCI election committee approved the request of Oman Human Rights Commission to take part at the election process.
