Oman Tennis: Hassan goes down fighting at ISC tourney

Muscat: Talented teenager Hassan Haider faced mixed fortunes and went down fighting at the ongoing ISC-Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC).
Sixteen-year-old Hassan Haider played with grit and determination and showed great fighting qualities when he rallied from 1-5 down to win his first round in the boys under-18 singles 8-7 (7-2) in the tie-breaker.
Talented Omani player Marwan Al Khanjari made life difficult for Hassan with some brilliant play.
With his back to the wall, Hassan broke Marwan in the seventh and ninth games and held for five-all.
Marwan dropped only one point and won the next game and it went up to 7-all before Hassan dominated the tie-breaker to win it 7-2.
In the second round, Hassan was up against third seed Sanskar Dubey and went down fighting. Sanskar played his usual attacking game and raced to a commanding 6-2 lead before Hassan got his act together and rallied to narrow the gap to 6-7 and fought hard but lost out narrowly.
Eyad Al Khanjari advanced to the second round of the boys under-18 singles after defeating Noah Sennhauser 8-3 in the first round.
Other first round winners were Sanskar Dubey who beat Ethan Maclure 8-2, Tyler Blake defeated Surya Mariappan 8-4 and Ammar Al Khanjari blanked Arya Deshpande 8-0.
