Kids marathon kicks off weekend of fun in Oman

Muscat: It will be a fun-filled two days with the Muscat Festival and the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon beginning this weekend.
While the marathon for children will begin at 3 pm on Thursday, the Muscat Festival will open at 4 pm at the Naseem Garden and Amerat Park.
The first day of the Muscat Marathon will see a new running category – Kids’ Run – which will feature three courses: 1km for children aged 7 and 8; 2.5km for 9 and 10-year-old; and a 4km course for youngsters aged 11 and 12. More than 2,000 young runners are expected to take part in the event on Thursday.
The main Muscat Marathon event, however, is scheduled for Friday.
“The final countdown has started for the Muscat Marathon as thousands of athletes begin to converge on Oman’s vibrant capital for Friday’s international showpiece. The seventh edition of the event will see 6,094 runners taking part in six different race categories,” a spokesperson for the event said.
Some of the elite runners, who are participating to beat their own record, will be coming down to encourage the children as well. Aki from Finland; Ahmed Mohaisin and Mohammed Al Khawaldah from Jordan; and Melly Kennedy, Gideon Kipsang, and Dorcas Kwambai from Kenya are all expected to cheer on the children.
People have been warned of limited parking in the area. “We would like to inform you that parking will be limited on Thursday and Friday, January 18 and 19,” Al Mouj Muscat stated.
