Over 134% surge in flights at Oman airports by the end of November 2022

Muscat: The total number of inbound and outbound flights at the airports of the Sultanate of Oman (Muscat, Salalah and Sohar) surged at the end of November 2022 by 134.5% to reach 57,939 flights compared to 24,710 flights during the corresponding period in 2021, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total number of inbound passengers through Oman’s airports increased considerably by 142%. Inbound, outbound and transit passengers in the airports of Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm reached 8,764,286 by the end of November 2022. The number of outbound passengers also rose by 111% compared to the corresponding period in 2021.

Breaking down the figures, the number of international and domestic flights (outbound and inbound) went up by 110.3% to stand at 61,296 flights (carrying 7,602,856 passengers) at Muscat International Airport by the end of November 2022.

Salalah Airport recorded an increase in the number of international and domestic flights by 73.8% to reach 7,940 flights (carrying 1,030,829 passengers) by the end of November 2022.

The number of international and domestic flights (inbound and outbound) at Sohar Airport stood at 743 flights (carrying 69,066 passengers) by the end of November 2022.

Domestic flights (inbound and outbound) at Duqm Airport stood at 598 flights by the end of November 2022 compared to 570 flights during the corresponding period in 2021. The number of passengers also went up by 38.3% to stand at 61,535 by the end of November 2022 compared to to 44,486 passengers by the end of November 2021.

The Indian nationality topped the list in terms of the total number of passengers in outbound and inbound flights at Muscat International Airport to stand at 120,684 passengers by the end of November 2022, followed by Bangladeshi passengers (48,313). Meanwhile, the number of Pakistani passengers stood at 37,375.
