‘La Sonnambula’ comes to Royal Opera House

Muscat: Vincenzo Bellini’s opera ‘La Sonnambula’ will be staged at the Royal Opera House . The performance that is set to take place on January 18 and 20, 2018, will be staged by the prestigious Italian opera company, Fondazione Arena di Verona.
The lead singers are renowned for their exquisite bel canto (beautiful singing) performances. The young lyric soprano, Rosa Feola, who won three prizes at the Plácido Domingo World Opera Competition 2010 and graces the world’s best stages, honours the ROHM with her debut as Amina. Elvino is performed by award-winning tenor Antonino Siracusa who enjoys an illustrious career in Europe and abroad. Nicola Ulivieri who plays Conte Rodolfo is gifted with a beautiful bass voice and a fine technique.
‘La Sonnambula’ was completed in 1831 towards the end of Bellini’s short life and is one of his best-known operas and a landmark art work in the bel canto operatic repertoire.
The story revolves around Amina, a sleepwalker (sonnambula) and an orphan, who is about to be married to Elvino, a rich landowner. One night, Amina sleepwalks into the room of Count Rodolfo, the son of the late Lord of the Village and this makes Elvino jealous. After that, Amina is cruelly cast off. But things change during her next bout of sleepwalking.
