Sayyid Shihab to preside over Ports Conference

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said will preside over the opening of the Oman Ports Conference at Grand Millennium Hotel today.
The conference, organised by Al Roya in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Omani International Logistics Group Asyad, will be attended by an elite team of experts from across the world.
Ihsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning and Development of Pakistan will give a speech on the importance of ports in trade activity.
Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al- Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications will make a presentation on the logistics sector, its current status and prospects, its importance for economic diversification plans and other important issues for the sector.
Hatim Hamad Al Taie, CEO of Al Roya and Secretary of the Conference said that the priority of the conference is to highlight Omani ports and the impressive leap it witnessed over the past year.
The conference will also display mechanisms to take advantage of new technology for the development of this promising sector.
He affirmed that a number of officials from the ports sector will attend the conference to share the different experiences that enhance the development of Omani ports.
He noted that the Omani ports are the backbone of the logistics sector, which plays a pivotal role in economic diversification and achieving the aims of Oman logistic strategy which seek to turn the Sultanate as a logistic hub for the Middle East region.
The first theme of the conference will be on maritime trade round the world and prospects for growth. The second theme will be on the efficiency of Omani ports, challenges and solutions.
The third theme will be on the role of the logistic sector in port integration. The conference concludes with a panel discussion titled ‘Mechanisms to Enhance the Sultanate’s Contribution to Global Maritime Trade.
