Oman Cricket: IT Works, Sarco, Zawawi and Waves win

Muscat: Leading from the front, captain Mudassar Iqbal powered IT Works to a five-wicket victory against National Youth Development Team (NYDT) in a Khimji Ramdas-sponsored A Division game at Ministry of Sports Affairs Ground II in Al Amerat on Friday.
Batting first, NYDT found the going tough from the very outset and were finally bundled out for a modest 177 in the 45th over. Ubaidullah (44 off 58), Iftikhar Ahmed (42 off 73) and Adil Abbas Ali (25 off 30) were the main scorers. Mudassar led the bowling honours, claiming four wickets while Usman Haider bagged two.
Mudassar was brilliant with the bat too, scoring an unbeaten 39 off 43 to help IT Works to a well-deserved win as they achieved the target in the 37th over for the loss of six wickets. Umair Naeem topscored with 44 off 85. Abdul Malik took two wickets for NYDT.

Sathisha stars for Sarco
A superb 63-ball knock of 90 by Sathisha Achary guided Sarco to a 40-run victory against Muscat Cricket Sports (MCS) in an Al Ansari Group-sponsored B Division clash at Muscat Municipality Ground II in Al Amerat.
Batting first, Sarco amassed 293 for eight in 30 overs thanks to Sathisha’s brilliant batting. Akshath Castelino (60 off 31), Ajay Menon (50 off 24) and Rakesh Patel (41 off 36) were the other main contributors. Syed Kazmi bowled well to bag four wickets while Bharat Barmeda took two.
Facing a huge total, MCS fought well but ran out of overs, managing to score 253 for seven, falling short by 40 runs. Opener Abrar Hussain batted strongly to score 61 off 37 while Syed Kazmi contributed 35-ball 56. Azeem Abdul (38 off 19) and Mohsin Nazir (26 off 26) were the other notable scorers. Saeed Khan took two wickets for 41.

Kannan lifts Zawawi
Riding on captain Prabhakaran Kannan’s significant all-round prowess, Zawawi Powertech Engineering thrashed FAP UTSC by six wickets in another B Division encounter at Muscat Municipality Ground I.
Opting to bowl first, Zawawi dismissed FAP for a paltry 101 in the 21st over thanks to Kannan’s scintillating bowling figures of 4-2-3-11. Kalairasan Natarajan and Manikandan Govindrajan bowled well too, taking three and two wickets respectively. Ali Muhammed scored 35 off 46 for FAP.
Zawawi raced to the target in the 16th over, scoring 105 for four. Kannan topscored with an unbeaten 37 off 30 while Natarajan netted 22 off 16. Faleel Thailakandy claimed two wickets.

Waves Engineering win
Waves Engineering Consultancy registered a facile nine-wicket victory against STS Tebodin in an Enhance-sponsored D Division match, thanks to superlative performances by Kamaljot Singh and Mohammed Wasim Khatri at Muscat Municipality Ground I.
Batting first, STS posted 153 for eight in 20 overs. Waseem Naeem (57 off 36) and Mohammed Ali Iqbal (34 off 16) were the leading scorers. Kamaljot Singh and Mohammed Shakeel Khatri bowled well to bag three wickets each.
Waves Engineering overhauled the target in the 12 overs, scoring 157 for one to book an easy victory. Mohammed Wasim Khatri (69 off 30) and Kamaljot Singh (35 off 25) remained unbeaten to guide their team to victory.
