'Together We Build' helps furnish homes of needy

Muscat: Volunteers of ‘Together We Build’ have helped nine families furnish their homes so far this year. The team is currently raising funds to furnish another 25 houses.
“The ‘Together We Build’ team launched the initiative at the end of 2017. They furnish the homes of needy families. Nine houses were furnished in different states: Al-Musna’a, Suwaiq, Bedbid, Damma, Al-Tayyeen, Ibra and Al Amirat,” team officials noted.
“One of these furnishings was for a needy family in Al Musina. We repaired a kitchen at a cost of OMR2,338.400. Some 25 families have been waiting for this kind of support. We get donations from the public and institutions for furniture and appliances,” revealed the volunteers.
The volunteer group undertakes different programmes depending on the donations.
According to the statistics compiled by the team in 2017, the programme benefited 1,113 people and 179 families during the year. The team also provided 1,148 opportunities to people wishing to volunteer. They received support from 169 people and institutions.
The team worked on 54 new projects with volunteers and established 20 workshops within the Sultanate. Eight workshops were held outside the Sultanate for community partnership.
The process of finding needy families is done with the assistance of the concerned authorities.
They then assess the requirements of the family based on interactions. Building material and construction companies are tapped for support and cost concessions, and then the restoration process is started.
Team members conduct maintenance on weekends so they can receive help from school and volunteer staff. Since 2014, the team has built nine new houses, repaired 27, and furnished 57 others.
Anyone can apply to join the team through an online registration form provided on their Twitter and Instagram platforms.
