Symposium on assistant to former Grand Mufti of Oman

Muscat: A symposium on the late Sheikh Said bin Khalaf Al Kharusi, Assistant to the former Grand Mufti of the Sultanate began at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) yesterday under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.
The symposium is organised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs represented by Ifta’ Office in cooperation with the Omani Studies Centre at SQU.
The symposium coincides with the first death anniversary of Sheikh Said bin Khalaf Al Kharusi. The symposium aims to shed light on his biography, the legacy of his literary, juristic and scientific production and his life.
It seeks to open up a field for researchers and those who are interested in the jurisprudential, judicial and literary heritage to explore the rich heritage of Sheikh Said Al Kharusi. It also aims to highlight the role he played in the judiciary and the Fatwa in the Sultanate for fifty years.
The symposium included a documentary film about the biography of the late Sheikh. There were also two sessions that included seven working papers presented by elite scholars and writers.
The symposium is accompanied by a two-day exhibition that contains a collection of important documents, historical letters, and some personal pictures. It also contains a corner of Sheikh personal possessions.
