Oman dining: 5 kitchen hacks

1. How to peel garlic easily
For people who prepare ginger garlic paste in large quantities this tip makes cooking easy. Crush the garlic by hand and apply some oil to them and let it stay outside in sunlight for an hour. Later you just crush them with your hand for about five minutes and most of the skin will peel off.

2. A novel way to scoop out squash seeds
Remove seeds from vegetables such as squash and pumpkin with an ice cream scoop. As the edge of the scoop is sharp, it cuts through the gooey stuff inside the squash and makes it easier than a regular spoon or your hand.

3. To remove eggshell pieces quickly
If you have broken eggshells in your batter or bowl of egg yolks and albumin, which is ready for cooking, it can be very time consuming to remove the shell. The easy way out is to use an already-cracked eggshell and dip it in the mix, near the offending bits of shell. The shell acts as a magnet to draw up shell pieces.

4. Make citrus fruits even juicier
To squeeze maximum juice out of a lemon, refrigerate then microwave it for 15 to 20 seconds. Roll citrus fruits before squeezing, cut them lengthwise, or use a pair of tongs to squeeze the juice out.

5. To clean dirty pans
To clean a dirty fry pan which is very hard for scrubbing and painstaking the simple way is to sprinkle ordinary cooking salt, and heat on stove and then clean with paper.
