Doping: Oman’s Ahmed Al Saadi banned for four years

Muscat: Omani sprinter Ahmed bin Mubarak bin Saleh Al Saadi has been slapped with a four-year ban by the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC).
According to information received from the OOC on Sunday, Ahmed Al Saadi, a 400m sprint specialist, tested positive for banned substance stanozolol during the 11th GCC Games held in Saudi Arabia in April last year.
“The Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) has decided to ban the Sultanate’s 400m sprinter Ahmed bin Mubarak bin Saleh Al Saadi from participation from all national, regional and international championships for four years with effect from November 8, 2017,” the OOC informed.
The committee also stripped Ahmed Al Saadi of the results and medals he obtained from his participation in the 11th GCC Games held in Saudi Arabia.
“The committee considered null and void the other medals, prizes and points he obtained from the same championship. The penalty was imposed on him for violating anti-doping rules pursuant to the Omani Anti-Doping Regulation,” the OOC added.
A sample test administered on him by the Medical and Anti-Doping Committee during these Games showed a positive result of Stanozolol, a substance which is banned both locally and internationally in accordance with the list of prohibited substances issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in 2017.
