Costa Rica: A family of five from a New York City suburb was aboard a plane that crashed minutes after takeoff from a popular beach resort in Costa Rica on Sunday, killing all 12 people aboard, a relative and other officials said.

The remains of the 12 victims from Sunday's plane crash in Costa Rica were recovered and taken to the capital San Jose on Monday. The State Department confirmed that all 10 passengers were U.S. citizens.

Relatives confirmed that a family of five from Scarsdale, New York was among the victims. They were all onboard a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft that the Costa Rican government said crashed into a mountainous area near the beach town of Punta Islita.

The plane's operating company Nature Air said the two Costa Rican pilots were also killed. The details of the crash remain unknown. The country's civil aviation agency said the plane had passed its most recent safety inspection. The agency's director also said the plane's landing had been delayed on Sunday morning due to strong winds.
