Oman Chess: IM Ismael Karim wins Markaz Al Bahja Chess title

Muscat: Using all his experience and expertise, International Master Ismael Karim took the top honours in the Markaz Al Bahja Chess Tournament here recently.
The latest edition of the popular monthly tournament received a huge response and witnessed some exciting matches.
In the open category, IM Ismael Karim remained unbeaten to win four points and with that the title.
Haqqeo Talin with 3.5 points took the second place while veteran player E.V. Guruprasad settled for the third place with three points.
The age group categories also saw some tough competition where Pavithra Viswanathan won the under-14 title with 3.5 points. T.R. Pogul Narayanan and Sai Krishna won the second and third places with three and 2.5 points respectively.
The under-12 title went to Srivatsan Karthikeyan who earned a total of four points. Hemasujan Kathikeyan and Roshini Uthaya Sankar were tied with three points each. But based on Buchholz (BH) tie-break method, Hemasujan was awarded second place and Roshini had to satisfy with the third place.
The under-10 event was played on round robin format with Sheryas Seshadri winning the title followed by Velavaa Rajavesh and Shaurya Sawlani in the second and third places respectively.
Shoaib Shahnawaz, meanwhile, won the under-8 event with 3.5 points. V. Suchitra with three points clinched the second place and G. Harikrishna finished third with 2.5 points.
