OmanPride: Studying abroad widens worldview, says multiple degree holder

“I always believed that one of the best ways to really experience and understand different people, their traditions and cultures is by completely immersing myself in different education systems,” said Wadhah Al Hinai, an Omani national who holds five academic degrees.
Wadhah is a law graduate from France and the United Kingdom and holds five academic degrees. “I am also a member of the New Generation Group of the Anglo-Omani Society, as well as the Omani British Lawyers Association”, he elaborated. He believes that these degrees will give him a career advantage in Oman as well as help him use his knowledge here in a better and efficient way.
In addition, Wadhah was also a part of a non-profit organisation that helped support students. “I also volunteered at a non-profit organisation called ‘Association de la Fondation Etudiante pour la Ville’, and for two hours a week, I provided support to a child who had been identified by education professionals as being in difficulty. This support was a one-to-one help provided at home and undertaken in close collaboration with the family.” He added, “This experience enabled me to learn to balance the requirements of study with extra-curricular activities and helped me evolve as a person, because understanding community needs helps foster empathy and self-esteem.”
His commendable scores and educational qualifications won him the “Outstanding Student” award.
Wadhah wants to inspire the youth of Oman to study abroad and expose themselves to different cultures, traditions, and values along with attaining strong skill sets and knowledge that they can use in Oman once they come back. “As we live in a globalised society, it’s important to develop an inclusive worldview. Being able to think from a global perspective will help us face modern challenges and come up with creative solutions. As we learn to view the world through different lenses, we’ll appreciate and love our own country and culture more,” he explained.
“Living abroad in foreign countries was a life-changing experience for me. I learned to be independent and open-minded as I ventured beyond what I thought I was capable of doing. I’ve also learned to cherish and appreciate my heritage and identity as an Omani,” he emphasised. —[email protected]
