Live in Oman? Now, pay the same for electricity every month

Muscat: Residents in Oman can now save money with the introduction of a new monthly payment plan by the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC).
The new billing service by the MEDC, called the Thabit, allows customers to pay a fixed amount of money each month to cover the cost of their annual electricity bill. The amount that the customers will need to pay will be calculated on the basis of their average consumption over the past 12 months.
Residents have hailed the new service. “With this service, I know that there is a certain amount of money I can allocate to my power bill every month,” said S Kumar, an expat.
“With times being so tough, this is good, because it means one of my expenditures has a fixed amount, so I do not need to worry about that.” An Omani, Mohammed, added: “We spend so much money on power not knowing how much money we can actually save if we just switch off the AC or TV when we are not using them. Seeing our average cost will make us realise just how high our bill can be. I think this will inspire us to save more in the future.”
