Liwa: The Wilayat of Liwa in the Governorate of North Al Batinah is witnessing significant developments in various vital and recreational areas.
The Liwa Public Park is one of the largest recreational spaces in the wilaya and the largest in terms of area in the wilayats of Governorate of North Al Batinah.
It was inaugurated, in conjunction with the Sultanate’s celebrations of the 47th Glorious National Day, on an area of 66,000 square metres at an estimated cost of OMR500,000.
It is located west of the roundabout of the Wilayat of Liwa towards the line leading to the Al Batinah Highway and the mountainous tourist villages.
The park is an open space for public recreational activities.
It has general and special children’s games for the disabled, 10,000 square metres of walkways, a fountain, six shaded guesthouses and 11,000 square metres of green space. The project consists of a rock garden, a tree labyrinth game, a cafe and public toilets.
Dr. Sheikh Said bin Humaid Al Harthy, Wali of Liwa, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that Liwa Public Park was an important facility in the wilayat. It was established through a real partnership among the public, private and community sectors. It was funded by Orpic and Sohar Aluminum. It is a true translation of the cooperation among the two sectors and society, with several projects being established with funding from the private sector, which is expected to end early next year.
“The park provides the residents with comfortable and attractive environment that brings them together and their families for hiking, walking, as well as for children’s games and other entertainment,” he said.
“Everyone recognises the importance of parks for family get-togethers, especially during the weekly, official, religious and national holidays,” noted Said bin Sulayem al-Kalbani, Director-General of the Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in the Governorate of North Al Batinah. “These families can find a suitable place to entertain themselves and their children.”
He pointed out that Liwa Public Park was suitable for these gatherings, as it was established to serve the people of the wilaya and residents. There are 58 children’s games, special spaces for people with disabilities, walking paths, fountain, waterfall, shades, recreational space and green spaces designed to create a natural environment for families. It is located between the centre of the wilayat, the new residential area and the mountain villages, which help visitors to make use of the facilities of the park.
The importance of this project is that it is an environmental project that has a positive impact on the health, because of its strategic and vital position.
