People in Oman gear up for New Year

Muscat: From OMR10 to OMR60, New Year’s Eve parties have something for everyone in Oman.
However, organisers have said that as the New Year’s Eve is falling on Sunday, they are expecting the numbers to drop a little. “Had it fallen on a weekend, it would have been great,” said Gautam Bose, acting general manager of Sohar Beach Hotel, which is organising a gala dinner on Sunday night with live bands and stand up comedians.
However, citizens and residents are gearing up to welcome 2018 in style. “We will party hard even if it is falling on a Sunday,” remarked Suraj, an Indian expat based in Oman. Keeping this in mind, people are shopping for glitzy dresses that will help them stand out during functions marking the New Year.
“Starting from dresses, shoes and accessories to make-up, the main idea of the party dress code is to look glamorous,” revealed Satish Kumar, who is organising a party in Muscat.
Even the hotels are busy for the New Year evening.
“Ring in the New Year with true Bollywood glamour, entertainment and colour. Come and celebrate the end of 2017 with vibrant surroundings and traditional Indian or international food carts, whilst dancing the night away to bold flavours and beats,” the Sheraton Oman Hotel has stated.
“Enjoy live entertainment from our Bollywood Celebrity DJ, flying in from India to spin the best international hits and Bollywood Dhamaka. Join us for one of the biggest countdowns the city has to offer,” it said.
Park Inn by Radisson Muscat said: “The Grand Countdown to 2018 begins. Let’s all welcome the New Year on the rooftop!”
InterContinental Muscat said in its Facebook page: “It’s the biggest and most colourful New Year’s Eve Party in Muscat! With live Brazilian band, Samba dancers and drummers, and live Latino DJ! All guests have the chance to win exciting prizes, including flight tickets, hotel stays in Dubai, and dining vouchers from The First Group. This is the one party you don’t want to miss!”
