T20 series: Oman women lose first match in Malaysia

Muscat: Malaysia women’s team defeated the visiting Oman squad by four wickets in a low-scoring tie to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series at Kinrara Oval in Puchong, Malaysia on Wednesday.
Asked to bat first, Oman struggled to find their feet, stuttering to 50 for seven in their quota of 20 overs.
Priyanka Mendonca was the only batswoman to reach double figures, scoring 10 off 28 balls.
Ainna Hamizah bowled exceptionally well for Malaysia, claiming three wickets conceding just eight runs in her four-over spell.
Defending a small total, Oman fought well to reduce Malaysia to 39 for six before a 12-run unbroken partnership between Wan Julia and Ainna Hamizah took the game away from the visitors.
The hosts eventually achieved their target in 13.3 overs. Oman captain Anu Amal and Shreya Dhuri bagged two wickets each.
The two teams will lock horns in the second match at the same venue on Thursday.
Brief scores: Oman Women 50 for 7 in 20 overs (Priyanka Mendonca 10, Ainna Hamizah 3/8) lost to Malaysia Women 51 for 6 in 13.3 overs (Yusrina Yakop 16; Anu Amal 2/12, Shreya Dhuri 2/14).
