Ministry inks deal to build Bidbid-Sur road tunnel

Muscat: The transport ministry has signed an agreement with INSHA and the Asyad Group to manage the tunnel project on the Bidbid-Sur road.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the ministry by Eng. Salim Bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and Engineer Abdulrahman Salem Al Hatmi, Group CEO of Asyad Group.
This agreement sets out the framework for the implementation of the National Programme for the Promotion of Economic Diversification in the capacity-building of government institutions through integrated project management. This is the first project in the Sultanate to be tested through this approach.
The project agreement with INSHA is for the construction of two tunnels on the track in the valley of Wadi Al Ouq, as well as for the protection of the road from rock fall in the some location for the safety of road users.
The double road project in Bidbid-Sur road will provide a safe and smooth path to traffic when it is completed, with facilities provided for the drainage of rainwater and bridges to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
It is also designed to be a path away from the valleys and the difficult slopes.
Al Nuaimi said: “The ministry has carried out large projects such as the construction of roads, airports and ports of high quality, through the competencies of the ministry and in accordance with its policy for the continuous development and adoption of modern and advanced systems in the management of projects in an integrated manner.” This initiative came through the expertise made available by Asyad Group, so that INSHA can be the implementing arm for the ministry’s roads, airports and ports projects.
