Potential importers invited to Indian food roadshow

Muscat: The Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) has invited importers from Oman to attend the Indus Food Roadshow 2018, to be held in India on January 18 and 19.
The event aims to give a boost to the export of food and beverages from India. This will mainly include pulses, rice, tea, fruits, vegetables and dairy products, among other edibles. TPCI director Ashok Sethi issued an official invitation to potential importers from Oman at the Indian embassy in Al Khuwair on Thursday.
The TPCI is a trade council that has the mandate to promote Indian interests in trade and commerce overseas.
Food and beverage exports from India to Oman mainly include tea, coffee, spices, cereals, meat products and seafood. However, TPCI is hoping to expand on that and export more edibles to Oman.
Invitees have been promised five-star hotel accommodation for the roadshow, which will be held at the India Exposition Mart in Greater Noida in the state of
Uttar Pradesh.
As many as 500 global buyers from the food and beverage industry are expected to attend the event and meet over 400 selected Indian suppliers to negotiate possible procurement deals.
Essentially, it is a platform where potential importers can meet willing exporters. Ashok Sethi, TPCI director, expressed optimism about Oman’s involvement in the event.
“We want Oman to be represented well at this event because of the long-standing trade relations and cultural similarities between our two countries.
“A lot of sovereign money has been spent to ensure that more food and beverages from India are exported. About 60 embassies have been giving a push to this initiative, and we are hopeful,” he said.
Sethi noted that India was the food bowl of the world and had a great deal to offer to the world. “India is the largest producer of milk in the world. About 70 per cent of all pulses is grown in India. At the event, we will have 20 tea companies offering you variety. I believe it is worth visiting,” he added.
The TPCI director stressed that the roadshow was in fact, an event supported by the government of India and would ensure credible suppliers. “We will make sure you meet the right people and that it is beneficial to all the parties involved,” Sethi emphasised. Exhibitors at the roadshow include prominent brands such as Mother Dairy and MTR. Among those attending the roadshow are: Paras Desai, executive director of Wagh Bakri Tea; Vijay Kumar Arora, chairman of LT Foods; and Apneet Riyait, additional managing director of Markfed. — Photo : Shabin E
