Oman fashion: Winter wardrobe must-haves

Contrary to popular beliefs, winters aren’t about dull apparel, heavy layering, and monotonous styling. Well, at least not in this part of the world. For most of us in Oman, winter is a season much looked forward to. And for our wardrobe, all we need are few winter basics to ensure we’ve embraced the winter look fashionably! Here are 11 items to bring out this winter.

Turtleneck pullovers
Nothing says winter like a ribbed turtleneck sweater. And the best part is the versatility that it comes with. You can wear it with a blazer for office and then transit seamlessly to a dinner party later in the evening by coupling it with a pretty skirt and fancy boots.

Throw-on long cardigans
All you need to turn a skimpy summer dress to its winter acceptable form is a colourful cardigan. Get some in bright colours to liven up a gloomy day.

Knitted slip-on dresses
Winters tend to make one lazy; and clothes that come on and off easy become favourites. It’s, therefore, no surprise that warm slip-on dresses are a winter staple. Forget the thoughtful layering, just couple these with knee-high boots and you’ll look effortlessly, elegantly, winter ready.

Boots
Ankle or knee-high, winter demands new footwear, and boots are the first that spring to mind. They come in a variety of materials, styles and colours, and can be worn with pretty much anything ‘wintery’ to make a statement of their own.

Snuggly scarves
Long, thick ones that can double as blankets if required. But hey, scarves can be worn fashionably too. You can wrap them around your neck, throw it over bare shoulders or even use as a headscarf to keep the cold out of your ears.

Leggings
When the tops get bulky, leggings can create a great silhouette for your legs at least. As opposed to jeans, skin-tight leggings are also easier to slip into knee-high boots. Though blacks are evergreen, you can always experiment with other brighter colours.

Beanies
Couple this with a coffee mug and you’ve got yourself a perfect winter shot right there. Beanies protect your head from dew, keep your ears warm, and make for a snug winter look. And no, you don’t necessarily have to go for ones that have pom-poms on the head.

Hooded sweat jackets
If you are one of those who suddenly develops a keen liking for long, outdoor runs in winter, these jackets are for you. Hey, your gym clothes can do with a winter addition too.

A lightweight denim jacket
A winter wardrobe without one of these? No way! When a forecasted cold winter day turns out to be a little warmer than expected, denim jackets are the smartest way to cover up without feeling out-of-place or uncomfortable.

Crochet poncho
And if you are tired of jackets, ponchos are the way to go this winter. It is feminine, comfortable and a welcome change from the regular sweaters. It’s also excellent to hide those few extra kilos that come with winter. Just make sure you’ve got yourself one in a fabric that will keep the cold out.

Corduroy skirts
Forget leather, bring out the corduroy skirts this winter. They are great for the daytime when you want to walk around and soak some sun. At other times, you can couple a corduroy skirt with leggings and a sweater for a classic winter look. — [email protected]
