Meet on Oman relations with Indian Ocean, Gulf States

Kuwait: The first session of the first day of the Sixth International Conference 'Oman Relations with the Indian Ocean and the Gulf States', currently held at the Sheikh Jabir Cultural Center, included seven different working papers, moderated by Prof. Dr. Misouri Al Arousi. Prof. Bonyan Saud Turki, Professor of Modern History, Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Kuwait University, presented his first paper entitled "Kuwait's Nokhethas in Muscat and East Africa" (1896-1918).
The second paper dealt with "The Efforts of Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Yaraibi in the Liberation of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf from the Portuguese Colonisation (1649 - 1679) and its Impact on Trade" by Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Hashemi, Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary History, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).
The third paper was presented by Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Kingdom of Bahrain, entitled "The Presence of the Omani Fleet in Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf," in which he talked about the strength of Oman and its possession of a large maritime fleet that was superior to many regional countries.
The fourth paper by Dr. Badawi Riad Abdel Samie, Institute of African Research and Studies at Cairo University dealing with the importance of the strategic and commercial port of Bandar Abbas from 1798 to 1868.
On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Moulambar Imbil Hussain Elias, Professor and Director of the Arab Indian Cultural Centre, revealed in his fifth working paper entitled "Maritime links between Oman and the coast of Malabar through Historical Records of the Lives of Individuals" that the recent excavations in Pattanam area in Indian Kerala State, the existence of a number of physical evidence that reveal some aspects of trade relations that prevailed between South India on the one hand and the Arab world, including Oman.
The sixth paper entitled "A Scene in a Reading of the Relations between Imam Ahmed bin Said and the Indian Subcontinent in the 18th century" by Dr. Juma Al Busaidi, Director General of Research and Document Circulation at NRAA.
The seventh paper by Dr. Ibrahim Said Al Baydhani entitled "American Navigation in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf during the 19th Century and its Impact on Omani-American Relations"
In the second session, moderated by Dr. Said bin Mohammed bin Said Al Hashemi in the first theme, "Political Historical", Prof. Dr. Essam Al-Saeed, Professor of History at the Faculty of Arts, University of Alexandria, presented a paper entitled "Al Busaid and Al Qawasim, a Study of Oman's Relations with the Sheikhdoms of the Coast between Stability and Change (1738-1819).
The second paper is a documentary study entitled by Dr. Badriya bint Mohammed bin Shams Al Nabhaniyah, Supervisor of History at the Ministry of Education in Muscat.
Professor Abdul Hamid Abdul Jalil Chalabi, Professor of Modern and Contemporary History and Head of History at Al Azhar University, Al Mansourah, Egypt, presented a paper titled "The Foreign Policy approach of Oman towards the Gulf and the Indian Ocean in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century."
The second session concluded with a paper entitled ''The Omani Trade Activity and the people of the Arabian Gulf in the 17th and 18th Centuries" by Hamoud bin Hamad bin Jowaid Al Ghailani, an expert of the Directorate of Antiquities and Culture at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture.
