Centre for special education at Indian School Salalah inaugurated

Muscat: Indian School Salalah inaugurated a Centre for Special Education (CSE) on Monday.

The centre will cater to the educational needs of children with learning disabilities.

Teacher at the centre Smitha Chandrshekar welcomed the gathering to the inaugural ceremony and thanked his Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

Dr Debashish C Bhattacharya, the President of the School Management Committee (SMC) said that procuring equipment from India had helped the centre greatly.

President of the SMC Debashish C Bhattacharya thanked the people who had contributed to the setting up of the centre. Among them were Khimji Ramdas family (Kanaksibhai, Anil Bhai), Dharamsey Nancy family (Bipinbhai Dharamsey), Sujay Hamlai from Oman pharmacheuticals, Sheikh
Mustahail kashoob, Harinder Singh Lamba of MR Fashions, Lulu-Salalah-General Manager Mohsin, Branch Manager of Poly Products Nicholas D’ Souza and Tamil Sangam.

He thanked the members of SMC engineer Jonathan among others for planning, design and the construction of CSE in a short span of 28 days.

Chairman of board of directors of the school, Wilson V George cited the examples of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawkins as people with disabilities who went on to become great scientists.

Children with special needs from the centre performed the song “Love can turn the world”. Later on, students of class IX and X performed a Tambourine dance.

The chief guest and Director of the board of directors of Indian schools in Oman and the CSE, Baby Sam Samuel said that children should
be emotionally grounded and inculcated with values of acceptance, emotional empathy, adaptability and diversity.

Among those present at the event were members of School Management Committee, Chairman of Indian Social Club Manpreet Singh, Former President of SMC S Ram Santhanam and former members of the SMC, sponsors, Principal T R Brown, Vice Principal Omana Mathews, Assistant Vice Principal Srinivasan (administration), Assistant Vice Principal C T Ramasamy (academics), Heads of the departments, parents, teachers and students.
