US delegation aims to raise environment awareness in schools

Amerat: US delegation, currently visiting the Sultanate, paid yesterday a visit to the schools of Shifa bint Awaf Al Sabahiyah and Said bin Nasser Al Kindi in the Wilayat of Amerat.
The visit aims to identify the activities and events carried out by the two schools in the Global Environment Programme.
The delegation includes Dr. Tony Murphy, US GLOBE Implementation Office Director and David O’Friere, GLOBE Director of Technology.
The delegation was briefed on the activities and events implemented in the programme.
The delegation also met with supervising teachers and students. It also learned about practical experiments in implementing the programme protocols, which aims to collect measurements of soil, water, air and vegetation, as well as research and scientific studies conducted by students at different locations.
The delegation made a field visit to Falaj Al Ha’ajir to learn how to take samples for water analysis.
The programme aims at improving the level of environmental awareness among students and improving the level of academic achievement in science, social studies and mathematics.
It aims to understand facts and data related to the environment in a scientific way and develop the spirit of citizenship and belonging through environmental preservation.
