UNESCO meet to focus on tourism

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, will patronise the opening of the Second World Conference on Tourism and Culture: Fostering Sustainable Development on Monday at the Oman Conventions and Exhibitions Centre.
The two-day conference is organised by the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with UNWTO/UNESCO.
Ahmed bin Nasser Al Meherzi, Minister of Tourism, the Secretary General of the WTO, UNESCO Director General, the UN Special Ambassador for Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals will deliver speeches on the sustainable development goals.
The conference’s programme will include a ministerial panel discussion for ministers and heads of the tourism and culture organisations who will highlight issues related to tourism, culture and sustainable development.
Delegations from more than 70 countries representing tourism and culture sectors will take part at the conference to explore means of enhancing joint cooperation and applying the necessary plans and programs to promote cultural tourism around the world.
The key themes of the conference are Special Dialogue: Cultural Tourism as a Factor of Peace and Prosperity, Tourism Development and Protection of Cultural Heritage, Culture and Tourism in Urban Development and Creativity, Exploring Cultural Landscape in Tourism and Towards the 2030 Agenda.
