Two hiring agencies shut for violating contract terms

Muscat: Two recruitment agencies were closed down by Al Buraimi Public Prosecution, as they did not comply with the terms of contracts with several consumers, according to Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).
The action was initiated after a series of complaints were made to the Consumer Protection Department of Al Buraimi against two labour-recruitment agencies.
The consumers had hired a few expat workers from these offices, but the workers refused to work after being hired.
As the expat workers refused to provide services after a certain period, the consumers disengaged their services and sent them back to the agencies.
However, one agency refused to refund the amount paid by a consumer, while the other office deducted about one-third of the amount paid by its consumer, although the contract mandated returning the agreed amounts in case the worker refused to work.
As a result, the department was forced to take the necessary procedures in these cases.
As the agencies were not responsive and complaints against them for not dealing with credibility continued to pile up, the department instructed the Al Buraimi Public Prosecution to request the closure of these two establishments, due to repeated complaints and violations of Articles 23 and 27 of the Consumer Protection Law and Article (20) of the Regulation of Non-Omani Manpower Recruitment Act of the Consumer Protection Law.
Accordingly, the public prosecution issued a judicial decision to close the two agencies temporarily. Embassies regularly blacklist companies if they are found cheating their citizens.
During the blacklisted period, these companies will not be able to recruit workers from those nations, and their representatives will find it hard to get visas to visit those countries.
