Three arrested in Muscat, Salalah for attempts to smuggle marijuana, khat

Muscat: Two individuals were arrested at Muscat and Salalah airports while trying to smuggle marijuana, according to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
The Directorate General for the Control of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances arrested an expat while trying to smuggle a quantity of drugs into the Sultanate through Muscat International Airport. In his suitcase, the ROP found 6 bags of marijuana, weighing in at about 7 kilograms.

The agency in Dhofar also managed to arrest an expat who tried entering the Sultanate through Salalah Airport, with a bag that contained a quantity of marijuana leaves and seeds.
Both suspects have been referred to judicial authorities for further legal action.
Khat arrest
Dhofar police arrested an Omani citizen for the possession of narcotic substances with the purpose of drug trafficking in Salalah. "He has been seized with three large boxes containing 318 packets of khat," ROP said on its website.
"The team, in collaboration with the Special Tasks Unit in Salalah, also managed to seize a vehicle in the wilayat of Mirbat with 2,420 packs of khat after its driver left it and ran away to an unknown destination," the ROP statement added.
