Cricket: Oman clinch series against USA

Muscat: Jay Odedara made vital contributions with bat and ball to help Oman beat USA by 89 runs in the day-night game and clinch the three-match series 2-0 at the Ministry of Sports Affairs Ground I in Al Amerat on Tuesday.
Oman had won the first game by 117 runs on Monday. The third and final match will be played on Thursday.
Opting to bat first on a chilly afternoon, Oman struggled to find their feet against some tight USA bowling, slumping to 97 for five by the 25th over despite fluent knocks of 39 each by Arun Poulose and Jatinder Singh.
However, late contributions from Odedara, captain Sultan Ahmed and Ahmed Fayyaz Butt propelled Oman to a fighting 189 for nine in 50 overs.
TK Patel led the bowling honours for USA, bagging four wickets for 28 runs in his quota of 10 overs.
In reply, USA failed to put up a fight and folded up for a meagre 100 in the 41st over. Ravi Timbawala top-scored with a laborious 23 off 65 balls.
Oman’s Khawar Ali was once again among wickets, taking three wickets. Ajay Lalcheta, Jay Odedara and Bilal Khan all bagged two wickets each.
Brief scores: Oman 189 for 9 in 50 overs (Arun Poulose 39, Jatinder Singh 39, Jay Odedara 38, Sultan Ahmed 24, Ahmed Fayyaz Butt 22; TK Patel 4/28) bt USA 100 all out in 40.1 overs (Ravi Timbawala 23, Khawar Ali 3/21, Ajay Lalcheta 2/13, Jay Odedara 2/19, Bilal Khan 2/27).
