Oman’s power production registers 7.5 per cent growth

Muscat: The Sultanate’s net electricity production until the end of September 2017 registered a growth of 7.5 per cent year-on-year reaching 28,123.9 GW/H from 26,152.7 GW/H over the same period of 2016, according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The highest growth in net electricity generation was reported from the Governorate of Al Wusta, which increased its gross power production by 92.4 per cent, with output reaching 403.8 GW/H at the end of September this year from 209.9 GW/H during the same period of 2016.
The Governorates of North and South A’Sharqiyah, came second with an increased net power production of 30.4 per cent, with output reaching 6,529.1 GW/H during the January-September period from 5,008.4 GW/H during the same period of 2016.
Meanwhile, Muscat and A’Dakhiliyah remained the only Governorates to record a fall in net electricity production during the period, according to the NCSI data. Muscat posted a 6.7 per cent drop in net electricity production at the end of September, which slumped to 2,851.5 GW/H compared with an output of 3,056.2 GW/H during the same period last year.
The Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah recorded a 13.5 per cent decline in net electricity production at the end of September this year to 874.9 GW/H, from 1,010.9 GW/H at the end of September 2016.
Net electricity production in the Governorate of Musandam increased by 4.8 per cent to 292.3 GW/H. Electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar increased by 5 per cent to 2,637.6 GW/H. Electricity production in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah together registered a 3.3 per cent growth to 14,534.6 GW/H.
The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC) from local power generating entities, as well as output from auto-generators and diesel rental units.
However, net electricity produced during September this year declined to 3,478.0 GW/H compared to August this year when it was 3,744.8GW/H.
The Sultanate’s gross electricity production until the end of September this year increased 6.7 per cent to touch 28,378 GW/H compared with 26,605.7 GW/H achieved during the same period of 2016.
Meanwhile, the Sultanate’s total water production at the end of August this year increased by 6.6 per cent to 264,939,200 cubic metre compared with 249,274,700 during the same period of 2016. The Governorate of Dhofar raised its water production by 10 per cent to 34,864,000 cubic meter at the end of August this year from 31,697,700 cubic meter during the same period of 2016.
The Governorate of Muscat raised its water production by 3.3 per cent to 117,403,900 cubic metre at the end of August this year compared to 113,599,300 cubic metre during the same period of 2016.
Production in other governorates together increased by 8.4 per cent to 112,671,300 cubic metre until the end of August 2017 from 103,977,700 cubic metre during same period of 2016, the data showed.
