News Rewind: 47th National Day holidays announced in Oman

With Oman's 47th National Day festivities in the air this past week, we take a look at our top five most read stories from the past week:
Holidays for National Day were announced, with Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Chairman of the Civil Service Council and Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower announcing that Sunday and Monday, December 3 and 4, 2017 will be official holidays for the public and private sectors.
The two ministers also announced that Tuesday, 16th Rabee Al Awwal, 1439 AH corresponding to December 5, 2017, will also be a holiday on the occasion of the Holy Prophet's Birthday (PBUH).
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander, presided over the military parade on Saturday, November 18, Oman's 47th National Day. Organised by Royal Oman Police (ROP), the parade was staged at the military parade ground at the headquarters of the Police Special Force (PSF) in the wilayat of Seeb in the Governorate of Muscat, and streamed live by Oman TV. The annual National Day fireworks display was held in three locations on Saturday night: in the wilayats of Al Amerat, Al Seeb and Dhofar. The fireworks in Al Amerat were organised at the Al Amerat Heights, in Al Seeb at Wadi Al Khoudh and at the Municipal Entertainment Centre in Dhofar. See pictures from the displays here.
And finally, the Indian embassy in Muscat announced this week that Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) living in Oman can apply for Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards until December 31 free of charge. "Post December, PIO card holders can convert their cards to OCI cards only with payment of USD275. PIO card holders won't be able to use their cards after deadline if they don't convert it to OCI cards," the Indian embassy added.
