A household name for his portrayal of Keith Partridge, the lead singer of his TV family's band, Cassidy's boyish good looks made him a 1970s idol, despite an image that was more 'bubble-gum pop' than serious musician.
Cassidy continued to perform on stage and in bit TV roles through much of the 80s and 90s and 2000s, including a 2011 appearance on 'Celebrity Apprentice.'
But he struggled throughout the years with debt and alcohol abuse - and was arrested several times for drunk driving.
Two years ago, Cassidy filed for bankruptcy and put his 7,000 square-foot Florida home up for auction, including this painting of him singing to his family.
Earlier this year, he announced he was battling dementia and stopped touring to focus on his health.
