Octal acquires authorised economic operator certification

Muscat: Octal has received the authorised economic operator (AEO) certificate from the Directorate General of Customs, providing it with cutting-edge benefits across its supply chain. The AEO will enable Octal to elevate its manufacturing prowess, enhance its import and export portfolio, and increase the strategic value of its trade management operations in more than 140 markets worldwide. The company received the certificate as a result of its strong track record of customs compliance and security standards, stated a company release.
“Octal is one of the first private sector companies in Oman to obtain the authorised economic operator certificate after demonstrating a strong track record of customs compliance, processes and systems. The programme is a trade facilitation measure that recognises reliable operators and encourages best practices in the international supply chain, prevents disruptions to the flow of goods, offers local companies a competitive advantage, and most importantly, positions Oman as a secure trading hub,” said Colonel Khalifa Al Syiabi, Director General of Customs.
“Receiving the authorised economic operator certification cements our role as a trusted trading partner, which is constantly improving supply chain processes, benefitting our long list of customers around the world. It reinforces our commitment to implementing and streamlining the mandates of the Directorate General of Customs across the business community in Oman. We also look forward to growing this partnership and help benchmark excellence throughout all trading sectors in full alignment with Oman’s 2040 Logistics Strategy,” remarked Amer Ali Hubais, Manager of Governmental Affairs at Octal.
“Having this certificate offers us a gateway to greater opportunities in every market we operate in. With that said, it also positions Oman as a burgeoning trading hub and a business-friendly destination,” added Hubais.
Octal’s reputation as a global leader in PET manufacturing has been driven by its strong dedication to international standards at every stage of production. From its dedicated hub in the Sultanate’s southernmost governorate of Dhofar, the company has won accolades for its stringent health, safety, security and operational policies.
The AEO programme was implemented by the Royal Oman Police at the Directorate General of Customs. The globally-recognised certification is in full compliance with the standards of the World Custom Organisation (WCO) and the framework developed by WCO. It was also supported by the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO’s) Trade Facilitation Agreement to establish strategic partnerships and ensure security within the business community, as well as facilitate the international supply chain and global trade. Additionally, the programme contributes to greater cost savings, fewer customs controls and recognition of the recipients as safe and secure business partners globally.
