Shantanu seizes U-10 crown at ISC tourney

Muscat: Shantanu Sriram capped his fine run of wins this year with the boys under-10 singles title triumph at the Arabia Falcon Insurance-sponsored Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC).
In the final, Shantanu played with authority to post an impressive 8-3 victory over Mikhail Sarit to win the under-10 crown.
Inspite of being broken in his very first game, Shantanu showed positive intent and played with controlled aggression to win six games on the trot.
Mikhail fought bravely and broke Shantanu’s serve in the tenth game to keep his hopes alive.
Mikhail was serving to save the match and started well before Shantanu forced the pace as Mikhail sent to returns long. Shantanu made no mistake at the first match point and converted it.
With this victory, Shantanu has won three titles in the under-10 category this year starting with the ISC-Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Open Tennis Tournament and followed it up with another title at the Ras Al Hamra Open Junior Tournament.
Meanwhile, Kaavya Jayakumar and Aayra Malhotra have qualified for the quarterfinals of the junior girls event after completing their round-robing matches.
Also qualifying for the quarterfinals are Smriti Iyer, KV Sowmya, Arthitha AR and Amitha Shanmukhi.
In round robin league matches, Arshitha AR defeated PV Dhanyasri 6-3, Kaavya Jayakumar beat Aayra Malhotra 6-0 and Smriti Iyer defeated Madhura Pandit 6-0 to qualify for the last eight.
