Oman's State Council third sitting opens, five economic and social topics approved for discussions

Muscat: On the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the State Council inaugurated on Tuesday its third annual sitting of its sixth term.
Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, welcomed the members of the Council and congratulated them on the auspicious 47th Glorious National Day, praying to the Almighty Allah to return this national occasion on His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said with good health and happiness and the Omani people with progress and prosperity.
He said: “Today we start the third annual sitting of the sixth term. We pray to the Almighty Allah to help us continue the same activity with which the Council started this term, which saw many meetings, activities and events that had a prominent presence.” He highlighted the great role played by the members of the council, in addition to the efforts of the technical units of the Secretariat General of the Council.
Dr. Al Mantheri praised the coordination and collaboration the council had from the Council of Ministers and all other bodies in the State, adding that we pray to the Almighty Allah to achieve the objectives of the Council and contribute to supporting the development process in the country under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
The Council approved the proposal of the Economic Committee on the topics it wishes to study during the current sitting, namely, “Integrating the Standard of Living and Productivity” and “Potentials to Enhance the Independence of the National Economy.”
The first aims to analyse the policies concerning the current standard of living of Omani citizens and their levels of performance, and the criteria on which they should be based, in order to try to reach a comprehensive general framework that links the targeted living standards and productivity. The second aims to propose appropriate macro-economic policy guidelines that require integration into the strategy of economic diversification and Oman 2040 vision.
The Council approved the proposals of the Social Committee to study “the Reality of the Services Provided by the Sports Clubs and how to use them to Serve the Community” and the “Oman National Project to Reduce Child Accidents”, while prioritizing the study of the second proposal, as the council has already approved the first proposal.
The Council discussed the proposal submitted by Honorable Dr. Suad bint Mohammed Al Lawatiya, Deputy Chairman of the State Council on “practicing the profession of psychological counselling. The Council approved the proposal with the formation of a committee to formulate the proposal to finalise it and take the comments and observations of the members.
