OmanPride: Souq es Sabt farmer’s market offers produce, crafts, and music

Oman’s first farmer’s market, Souq es Sabt or Saturday Market, has begun its selling season at Al Mouj. Founded by Sarah Al Masfoor, what started as a few stalls in a local park expanded to a full fledged organised market within a few years. Souq es Sabt has provided many farmers, small scale local vendors, florists, home cooks, bakers, artists, and chefs, with a venue to sell their products. Over the years, it has proven to be a great platform to market and exhibit local produce, along with a variety of products.

Souq es Sabt has assisted small businesses that do not have the expertise or resources to start a venture. There have also been success stories in which vendors who started their journey with Souq es Sabt, have gone on to set up their own businesses after having gained experience and contacts at the outdoor market.
It has also been a platform in which talented fine artists and performing artists have used the venue as a stage, and visitors as their audiences. This year, Just Jams, a group that promotes talented local musicians, will be holding sessions at Al Mouj during Saturday Market hours, in which musicians who wish to sing are given a microphone and a stage.

Organic and locally grown vegetables, dairy products, handicrafts, flowers, bakery items, and art works, amongst other things, are on display at Souq es Sabt. Souq es Sabt is open every Saturday from 9am to 2pm until the 16th of December.
