Oman Cricket suspends PTI’s Sultan Ahmed for three matches

Muscat: Oman Cricket has slapped a three-match ban on Passage to India (PTI) wicketkeeper Sultan Ahmed after a controversial dismissal of an Al Turki batsman during a recent Premier Division match.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governing body of the Sultanate’s cricket said: “Taking cognizance of the incident involving a controversial dismissal in a Premier Division match, Oman Cricket (OC) has suspended Sultan Ahmed for three matches.”
“With reference to the Premier Division match played between Passage to India (PTI) and Al Turki NMC on October 6, 2017 wherein Sultan Ahmed of PTI was found to have breached the Players’ Code of Conduct under the Spirit of Cricket, causing a Level II offence, Oman Cricket has suspended him from participating in three matches with effect from October 14, 2017,” the OC statement added.
Incidentally the match saw Oman Cricket reaching new milestone by installing video cameras on the ground for the first time. And ironically, Sultan Ahmed’s controversial act was caught on camera on the very first day of the use of video cameras.
The video which went viral on social media shows Sultan Ahmed, who is also the captain of Oman national team, successfully appealing for a hit-wicket against Al Turki’s Twinkle Bhandari while a slow-motion clip shows the bails being dislodged after the wicketkeeper’s leg touches a stump.
Despite the controversial decision, Al Turki went on to win the match after successfully chasing PTI’s total of 101 all out in 36.5 overs, scoring 102 for two in 24.3 overs.
