Slew of events to celebrate Omani Women’s Day

Muscat: A number of events are being organised by government and private agencies this week to celebrate the annual Omani Women’s Day on October 17.

The Department of Tourism in South Al Sharqiyah has organised a tourist convoy for employees of government and private agencies in the governorate to the old fort museum in Wilayat Al Kamel Wa Al Wafi, and to Jalan Bani Bu Hasan fort to celebrate the occasion. It has also organised a relaxing beach day at the Al Ashkara beach in Jalan Bani Bu Ali.
To mark Omani Women’s Day and the 47th National Day, Omani fashion designer Amal Al Gamali, will host a show at the Opera Galleria on October 18. The proceeds from the ceremony and costumes sold will be used to support Dar Al Atta’a activities for women’s empowerment.
“The collection that will be presented during the ceremony has been designed with a special theme for the first time. From this event, our aim is to express our feelings and great love to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and thank him for his support and his trust in Omani women, as well as our pride in the progress achieved by Omani women,” said Al Gamali.
The Tourism Ministry in Al Khuwair will also hold an event at the gallery of the artist Sanaa Al Hamidi on Tuesday, October 17 from 9am to 12pm.
The Omani Photographic Society is celebrating Omani Women’s Day by highlighting the work of 40 female photographers. Omani Photographic Society of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre of Culture and Science in A’Seeb will celebrate the occasion for the eighth year in a row by holding a special exhibition for Omani photographers to highlight their vision, ideas and aspirations through more than 50 photos. The exhibition will open on, October 17 under the patronage of Hujaija bint Jaifar Al Said, at 7:30 pm, and continue until October 31.
“The eighth exhibition of Omani photographers coincides with the Sultanate’s celebrations of the Omani Women’s Day, which was inaugurated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, to honour them for their loyalty and the efforts they spent to serve the country,” said Thuraya Al Mawali, an official at the Photographic Society of Oman.
Two other exhibitions will be held on the occasion; the first is a businesswomen’s exhibition organised by the Entrepreneurship and Innovation unit in the Higher College of Technology on the day and a “Women and the Economy” exhibition organised by the Omani Women Association in Dhofar at the Grand Mall Salalah from October 17 to 21.
