Salalah port's expansion discussed

Muscat: Salalah port’s expansion was discussed by the steering committee of the logistics sector. It was agreed that the private sector would invest in increasing the volume of handling by replacing the current cranes in the port with others of high sizes to keep pace with the movement of ships and their sizes that would like to use the port to compete among the ports of the region.
The committee agreed that the private sector should pay the cost of the project.
The committee held its tenth meeting under the chair of Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, in the presence of the support team of the Implementation and Follow-up Support Unit.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee thanked all the institutions that interacted and contributed positively to achieving the initiatives according to the timetable and performance indicators set for each initiative and project, as well as to review the challenges facing the progress of initiatives and solutions proposed to overcome them. The committee examined the options of expansion and development of the general cargo terminal.
