Oman tennis: Fatma Al Nabhani crowned champion in Tunisia

Muscat: Producing another stellar performance, Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani clinched the singles title in the $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit Hammamet Open tournament in Tunisia on Sunday.
In a tricky final, second-seeded Fatma upset the Bulgarian top seed Isabella Shinikova for a straight sets 6-3, 6-1 victory in one hour and 15 minutes.
In both sets, the Bulgarian tried to dominate the game in the initial stages but in both sets Fatma thwarted the danger and then reeled off series of winners.
Fatma stamped her authority in the second set and won five games in a row to clinch the match.
In Saturday’s semifinal, Fatma survived some tense moments before recording a 6-2, 6-4 victory over French third seed Marine Partaud.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Fatma defeated her doubles partner and German sixth seed Katharina Hering 6-1, 6-4.
In the doubles competition, the challenge of Fatma and Katharina ended in the semifinals when the second-seeded pair were handed a 6-3, 6-3 defeat by unseeded Lea Boskovic of Croatia and Yasmine Mansouri of France.
