German embassy in Oman officially opens new premises

Muscat: Germany’s embassy in Oman officially opened its new premises in the capital city earlier this week.

The official opening of the building took place in the presence of Yousuf bin Alawi, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Prof. Norbert Lammert President of the German Bundestag currently on official visit to the Sultanate of Oman and Dr. Yahya bin Mahfudh al-Mandhari, Chairman of State Council, and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassadors and other dignitaries.

The new Embassy premises is in the Diplomatic Area in Al-Khuwair, and the complex includes the embassy offices as well as the Ambassador’s residence while encompassing the traditional plantation of the Sultanate.

In a message conveyed by German Ambassador Thomas Schneider, the Federal Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel highlighted Germany’s deep trust in a prosperous future of the Sultanate of Oman by building a new Embassy in the Omani capital Muscat:

“Our new Embassy underlines Germany’s commitment to close and sustainable relations with the Sultanate. For decades, the Sultanate of Oman has pursued a foreign policy based on the principles of equality, dialogue, settlement of disputes through peaceful means, a policy of respect for the rules of international law and for the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
“May our new German Embassy in Muscat become a place where Germans, Omanis and all those living in Oman meet and exchange views, understand and learn from each other and identify possibilities of enhanced cooperation and common projects.”
